Letters of Request and Foreign Convictions

Letters_of_request

Many prosecutions have an international element to them and there are systems in place for prosecutors to obtain evidence from overseas: mutual legal assistance (MLA) and other forms of co-operation. This course aims to take you through drafting effective letters of request, which are formal written documents by which an MLA request can be made. It is intended to be a practical guide and is equally useful to new or experienced prosecutors, as the standard of our letters of request has a direct impact on our ability to secure safe convictions and protect the public.
