Faculty of Leadership and Management
The faculty contains information about the development programmes for aspiring and new managers, Unit Heads, Area Business Managers, and Chief Crown Prosecutors.
The prospectus encompasses a wide range of leadership and management modules and is intended to help increase the level of leadership throughout the CPS.
The programme for new managers is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and consists of a number of classroom based sessions as well as distance learning and workplace based assignments.
All these programmes are intended to help drive up performance management within the CPS and, in conjunction with some of the 'technical' skills provided elsewhere, will lead to a better equipped and aware management within the Service.

How do I Induct?
How do I induct? module is available to support Line Managers in the induction process for all new staff.


Performance Management
The Performance Management module is essential learning for all managers prior to their attendance on the Performance Management workshops, It can also be used as a stand alone module to give a comprehensive background to the CPS performance management system for new managers, or used as a refresher for more experienced managers. The module examines how performance at individual and team level links in to the overall aims of the CPS and the wider CJS.


Practical Project Management
The Prosecution College Practical Project Management course is aimed at developing Project Management skills within the CPS. Combined with a workbook and followed by a workshop, the module will enable users to identify the stages and activities involved in project management and identify the roles and responsibilities of project management functions.


Love Learning - Management Core Skills
Management Core Skills training programme, which comprises 10 modular learning packages focusing on key areas such as Strategic & Business Planning, Financial Planning & Control, Performance Indicators, Budget Management and Interpretation of Accounting Data.


Effective Delegation
A good part of a manager's role is knowing when, how and who to delegate to. Without effective delegation your role can become overburdened and your team can begin to become frustrated and feel that they are not developing - this module aims to take you through the key rules for effective delegation so that you are able to make the most of the resources that you have in your team members. It is intended to be a practical guide and is equally useful to new or experienced managers in any position throughout the CPS.


Time Management
Effective time management techniques are not a new concept - but they are still one of the most frequently expressed needs amongst managers. This module aims to help you learn to use these techniques effectively in your role and cut down on the time used spent searching for things, dealing with interruptions, checking, chasing and handling problems, crises etc. It will also cover setting priorities, managing yourself and recognising those opportunities to use your time to best effect.


Finance Induction Part 1
This programme is aimed at all financial accounting and financial management staff. The programme is intended to introduce users to the key elements of resource based accounting, and broaden their knowledge of the way that the CPS is funded.


Finance Induction Part 2
This programme has been developed for staff involved in financial management, budget holders or those who monitor budgets. It is intended to further develop knowledge of the key elements of budgeting and resource based accounting.


Finance Induction Part 3
This programme is aimed at specialist finance staff or those involved in operational or strategic roles. It is intended to develop your knowledge of the key elements of financial accounting within the CPS.


Giving and Receiving Feedback
Using feedback encourages your team to perform better and produces a climate of trust and openess. This module encourages feedback to improve the performance of yourself and others.


Coaching
This module on coaching allows you to identify techniques, select the most appropriate techniques to apply in the workplace and meet development needs plans. To use feedback to monitor progress, evaluate effectiveness of coaching and maintain coaching records.
There is a short pre course assessment within this modules and knowledge check after so you are able to compare prior knowledge to what you have learnt.


Managing Poor Performance
The Managing Poor Performance module is designed to assist managers in understanding the detail of the Managing Poor Performance Policy, revised in 2007 - it is essential learning for all current managers and for those new to a management role. It can be used as a stand alone module and is also useful as a refresher when you have to deal with potential issues under the policy.


Disciplinary
This module on dealing with issues under the Disciplinary Policy, which was revised in 2007, is designed to assist managers in understanding the detail of the Policy, what steps to follow and what support is available. It is essential learning for all current managers and for those new to a management role. It can be used as a stand alone module and is also useful as a refresher when you have to deal with potential cases under the policy.


Grievance
This module is designed to help Line Managers deal effectively with issues raised under the Grievance procedure, which was revised in 2007. It covers the steps that you need to take, both informally and formally and explains about sources of help and support. It also covers the appeals process and how to manage the modified Grievance procedure. It can be used as a stand alone module and is also useful as a refresher if you have to deal with potential cases under the policy.


Managing Attendance
The Managing Attendance module is designed to help managers to achieve improvements in attendance levels through balancing the needs of the organisation, the needs of those staff who are ill and those staff who remain at work. It has been designed to support the updated policy, launched in November 2007 and is essential learning for all line managers. It can be used as a stand alone module and is also useful as a refresher when you have to deal with potential issues under the policy.


Competency Based Selection
This consists of three modules that guide job sponsors through the competency based selection process.
The modules include:
- An Introduction To Competency Based Selection;
- Applying the Civil Service Commissioner's Recruitment Code
- Applying the Commissioners' Code Requirements
As part of the Competency Based Selection programme there is a two-day training course and a further e-Learning module on Competency Based Interviewing, both of which are determined by the Learning Needs Analysis.
