These modules are intended to help all staff who currently work in Witness Care Units, as well as providing a level of awareness of the project for all staff. These modules form part of the training package which has been developed for the WCU staff and managers and should complement any other training that you have received.

This module explains the different agencies that make up the Criminal Justice System, explains how No Witness No Justice fits into that system, and suggests further sources that can help you find out more about Criminal Justice in action.

 

Assessing Team Learning and Development
Estimated Completion Time: 35 Minutes

This module covers the objectives and benefits of the No Witness No Justice initiative and how to determine which aspects of learning and development you require in order to properly contribute.

 

How to Conduct a Needs Assessment
Estimated Completion Time: 30 Minutes

This module explains the purpose of the needs assessment and the benefits of a needs-based approach to witnesses. It describes the process of a risk assessment and explains how individuals may react to traumatic events.

 

Written Communication Skills for WCOs
Estimated Completion Time: 25 Minutes

This module shows you how to assess your own style of communication, and then demonstrates best practice guidelines for written communications with witnesses. It also provides a plain speaking resource guide.

 

The Importance of Victim Personal Statements
Estimated Completion Time: 15 Minutes

This module explains what a VPS is, the circumstances under which a VPS may be taken, the impact a VPS may have on a case, and what information a VPS may contain.

 

Guidance on Disclosure
Estimated Completion Time: 10 Minutes

This module covers the importance of disclosure principles and how this impacts on the work of a witness care officer. It also covers what do with material that comes into the hands of a WCO and the implications on the outcome of a case.

 

Guidance on Data Protection
Estimated Completion Time: 15 Minutes

This module covers the importance of following data protection principles and guidance issued by the CPS and Police, and shows you how to apply these principles to your everyday work.

 

Guidance on NVQ2 Customer Care
Estimated Completion Time: 10 Minutes

This module explains the reasons behind the National Vocational Qualifications programme and provides an overview of the NVQ level 2 Customer Service course.

 

Guidance on NVQ3 Customer Care
Estimated Completion Time: 10 Minutes

This module covers the benefits and objectives of the Customer Service NVQ level 3 programme, how to carry out these objectives and the aims of the six units which make up the programme.

 

Guidelines on How to Qualify as an NVQ Assessor
Estimated Completion Time: 10 Minutes

This module covers the benefits of the NVQ qualification, the A1 and A2 Assessor Awards and the methods used in the A1 and A2 development plans.

 

Special Measures: Basics

This module provides a basic introduction to Special Measures. Topics included in this module are: Identifying Vulnerable & Intimidated Witnesses; Outline of Legislative Provisions; Legislative and Non-Legislative Measures; Improving Access to Justice for Vulnerable or Intimidated Witnesses.
