This programme has been developed for staff involved in financial management, budget holders or those who monitor budgets. It is intended to further develop knowledge of the key elements of budgeting and resource based accounting.

Modules

Programme overview

This module looks at the learning objectives for this programme.

 

Resource and budget management
Estimated Completion Time: 25 Minutes

This module considers the key cost classifications and costing methods and outlines what is involved in setting a resource budget. This section also identifies how to deal with accruals and prepayments and describes some of the ways to manage a budget within the CPS.

 

Budget allocation
Estimated Completion Time: 35 Minutes

This module looks at the context for cost allocation within the CPS and defines activity based costing and why it is used within the CPS. It also identifies how to allocate salaries, prosecution costs, accommodation and non ring fenced costs within a budget.

 

Purchasing to payment
Estimated Completion Time: 10 Minutes

This module focuses on purchasing to payment looking at the areas of Oracle Financial used by the CPS and the key functions of the Accounts Payable System. It also considers how to use the FARMS manual to find out more information and how the Government Purchasing Card is used.

 

Capital
Estimated Completion Time: 15 Minutes

This module considers capital and what this means in relation to CPS accounting as well as identifying the difference between tangible and intangibale fixed assets. It also looks at how to apportion capital cost in the CPS and the importance of a fixed asset register.

 

Management Reports
Estimated Completion Time: 30 Minutes

This module looks at the different types of management reports used in the CPS and identifies the purposes and causes of varience. It also looks at where to find further support and information on finance within the CPS and contains the post course assessment and evaluation sections.
